A memorial service honoring the life of Michael "Mike" Sparks will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Officiating the service will be Pastor Dennis Sims of Ellerbe Baptist Church.
Michael "Mike" Sparks, 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 in Longview, Texas. He had recently retired from the Bernalillo County Tax Assessors Office in Albuquerque, NM.
Michael was born in Shreveport, Louisiana to Myrtle and I.D. Sparks on February 22, 1948. He graduated from Fair Park High School in 1966, attended Northwestern University, Louisiana Tech, and Auburn University. He also served in the US Army.
He is survived by his loving partner of 16 and half years, Joyce Venable; beloved children: daughter, Amber Roland and husband, Chris, and son, Christopher Sparks, and wife, Shannon; sisters Claudia LeFort and husband, Dan, Cindy Guier and husband, Steve, eight adored grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Irene Sparks; his father, I.D. Sparks and his mother, Myrtle Swindle.
Mike was an avid LSU Tiger and New Orleans Saints fan. He also loved the game of golf, watching movies, and the mountains of New Mexico.
