Mildred Norwood Gentry

Mildred Norwood Gentry, 101, passed away on July 20, 2024 at her home in Holly, Louisiana.

She was born on May 25, 1923, in Converse, Louisiana. Mildred was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mansfield. She was proud to have been blessed to live beyond 100 years.

A visitation for Mildred will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Mansfield, Louisiana, from 10:00 AM until time of service. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Officiating the service will Pastor Charlie Lombardino of Big Creek Cowboy Church in Coldspring, TX. Burial will follow at Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Catuna, LA.

Mildred graduated from Converse High School in May 1940, and attended beauty school in Shreveport, Louisiana. She married Carlton Gentry on December 24, 1940, and they were happily married for 64 years until his death in 2005. They had four children. Mildred was raised on a farm, so she was accustomed to hard work. She grew up gardening and canning and preserving fruits and vegetables. She loved to work in her yard planting trees and flowers. She was an excellent cook who rarely used recipes. She will be remembered for her home-cooked meals and delicious desserts.

Mildred was predeceased by her parents Hix and Hazel Norwood; brothers, Douglas and Charles; her husband, Carlton; her son Bill and his wife Linda; and her son-in-law, Tim Touchstone.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mary Beth Touchstone; her sons, Mike Gentry and wife, Judy, and Scott Gentry and wife, Terry. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons.
