Mitchell Judson “Jud” Scott, III, 78, of Blanchard, Louisiana passed away March 19, 2025, with his loving family by his side. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 28, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Benton Methodist Church, 4615 Palmetto Road, Benton, Louisiana. A visitation will be held at the church at 2:00 p.m. until service time. Reverend Brad Franklin and Reverend David Dietzel will officiate.
Jud was born September 2, 1946, in Mansfield, Louisiana. Jud boasted of enjoying a perfect childhood growing up in Kingston, Louisiana, where his family homeplace included a sawmill, cotton gin, and general store in addition to his family home. Jud graduated from Mansfield High School and then headed to LSU where he met the love of his life in calculus class. After graduation, Jud began his lifelong career as a mechanical engineer for SWEPCO.
Jud and Marvel made a home in Blanchard, where they raised their children. He was a devoted father and was always present in our lives, from ski trips to summer road trips to being a Boy Scout Troop leader. Jud loved music and taught himself to play the steel guitar. He loved going to steel guitar conventions and having Friday night jam sessions at his house. He loved piddling in his shop with his latest project and was always coming up with new ways to fix things. When Jud wasn’t piddling in his shop or playing music, he was traveling with Marvel all over the world. They loved cruises and enjoyed Alaska, Australia, Panama Canal, and most recently London. He was only disappointed that they would never let him in the engine room on the ship.
Family was most important to Jud and spending time with his grandchildren. He was known as Daddy Jud to his grandkids and he put them front and center, participating in their interests as well as sharing his interests with them. Of utmost importance to Jud was attending the grandchildren’s performances or ballgames. Long-travel distances to watch a game was no problem; he was in the stands cheering them in victory and encouraging them in defeat.
He was the smartest man we have ever known, he had the best jokes, and we will miss his stories and his laugh. He was the most amazing husband, the best daddy, the most loving Daddy Jud to his grandkids, a faithful brother, and a friend to everyone he met. He was a devoted Christian and an example of all that is good in this world.
Jud is preceded in death by his parents, Llia Jo Odom Scott and Mitchell Judson Scott, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marvel Jones Scott; son, Matthew Scott and wife, Amy; daughter, Melissa Flores and husband, Bud; and grandchildren, Trystan Hernandez and wife, Anne, Brittany Scott, Joe Scott, Roy Flores and Jud Flores. He is also survived by his sister, Roxy Scott Meers, and an extended family that he loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Volunteers of America of North Louisiana, 360 Jordan Street, Shreveport, LA 71101, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
