Mitzi Joyce McLean Normand, 78, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017, after a graceful dance with Alzheimer's. Her last days were spent surrounded by family and friends in the place she called home for 8 years, Montclair Park Assisted Living and Memory Care Center in Shreveport, LA.
Services will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St, Shreveport, LA. Visitation will be from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2017 funeral following immediately at 3:00 pm. Mitzi was born March 5, 1939, at Barksdale Field, Bossier City, LA to Sherman Angus McLean and Maude Vivian Hargrove McLean (Kitchen).
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Richard Edmond Normand, her parents and her brother Robert Sherman McLean. She is survived by her sisters, Shirley McLean Smith and Nancy Kitchen Enis; brother, Michael Dean Kitchen; children, Neill (Alice), Valerie (Mark), and Matthew (Lisa); and grandchildren, Sydney Mays (Tanner), Samantha Normand, Brandin Rognlie and Nicolette Rognlie.
She will be remembered for her lovely smile, giving heart, and adventurous spirit. She would drop everything and drive to Colorado or Washington State to see her children, take a cruise to Alaska with a friend, or go all the way to Canada to see her beloved MacLean clan. With over 30 years as an operating room (OR) nurse, helping others was second nature to her, to which lifelong friends can attest. When asked if she had any last advice for her family, she once said, "You can endure more than you think you can. ...Be happy. Love each other. And keep in touch. ...Life is too short to just pine away for your [loved ones]-if they can't come see you, you just have to go see them. ...Remember you come from good stock!"
The family suggests memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011, or alz.org, or to the donor's choice.
