Muriel Porta Cofer, long-time resident of Shreveport, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018, in Lafayette, Louisiana. She was born November 13, 1921, in Trees City, Louisiana, and was a resident of Shreveport until she moved to Lafayette in July of 2013. She attended C.E. Byrd and Fair Park High Schools. She began her banking career at Commercial National Bank in 1952 and after a 31-year career retired as Assistant Vice President at the Youree Drive Branch. During her years in Shreveport she loved gardening, sewing, her book club and was a member of the Women's Department Club.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018, at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, with burial at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave. immediately following the service. Officiating will be The Dean and Clergy of St. Mark's Cathedral. The family will receive visitors in the church parlor from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Cofer, Jr., her father, Felix G. Porta, Sr., mother, Audrey Havers Porta, brother, Hilton B. Porta, brother, Felix G Porta, Jr., sister, Lois P. Green, sister, Elizabeth P. Molnar, and brother, Leonard A. Porta.
She is survived by her son, J. Greg Cofer and his partner, Steven B. Lott and daughter, Andrea C. Pate and husband, James L. Pate. She is also survived by granddaughters Allison P. Rosen and husband Garrett, Erin P. Romero and husband Blake and Caitlin P. Dominique and husband Ross all of Lafayette, LA; and her great-grandchildren, Coen Romero, Anders Rosen, Ian Romero, Jackson Romero, and Tucker Dominique.
Honoring Muriel as pallbearers will be Garrett Rosen, Blake Romero, Ross Dominique, Steven Lott, James Hoss, Henry Hoss, Coen Romero, Ian Romero and Anders Rosen. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Robert Blackshire.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to St. Mark's Cathedral, 908 Rutherford St., Shreveport, LA 71104.
