Funeral Services for Nancy Katherine (Kay) Parker Chance, 80, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at St. Mark's Cathedral on Rutherford Street in Shreveport, LA with The Very Reverend Alston Boyd Johnson, Dean, St. Mark's officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Greenwood Memorial Cemetery, Military Highway, Pineville, LA. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 17,2016 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home, Shreveport, LA, Ms. Chance passed away peacefully June 15, at Longhorn Village Retirement Community in Austin, TX, after a long illness. Kay was born in Alexandria on January 5, 1936. A few years after her father's passing in 1940, the Parkers moved from LeCompte, LA, to Alexandria. Kay attended Bolton High School. Kay graduated in 1954 and attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where she majored in Journalism and English. Kay was a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, Delta Iota chapter. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1958. Kay taught Advanced English and Journalism at Pineville High School where her students absolutely adored her. In 1960 Kay married John Patrick Cotter. His career with the military took their growing family to Kansas, North Dakota, and back to Louisiana. She published several tabloid magazines between 1975 and 2011, including The Bike Rider News, The Sports Line, The Front Gallery, and lastly Portfolio. She held a special place in her heart for the historic Strand Theatre, The Nena Plant Wideman Competition and the Shreveport Little Theatre. She was preceded in death by her son, Wirt Patrick Cotter; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wirt Parker (Inez); and her brother, John Wirt Parker, of Alexandria, LA. Kay is survived by her sons Chris Cotter and his wife, Sara, of Austin, TX; Mark Cotter and his wife, Stephanie, of Monroe, LA; and daughter Nancy Cotter Bostrom and her husband, Eric, of Raleigh, NC; as well as grandchildren Sean Cotter, Andrew Cotter, Holland Bostrom, Sinclair Cotter and Kate Bostrom. The family wishes to thank the loving staff at Casa Mesa 2 at Longhorn Village and Heart to Heart Hospice for the devoted care they provided over the last year.
