BENTON, LA - A Mass of Christian Burial for Nancy Underwood will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at St. Jude Catholic Church, Benton, LA. Co-celebrants will be Msgr. Earl Provenza and Father Pike Thomas. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, March 10, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a vigil at 7 p.m. at Rose-Neath Bossier.
Nancy was born in Otter Lake, MI on October 20, 1937 to Luella and Allen Jones and passed away March 5, 2017 in Bossier City, LA. She retired from the Bossier Parish School System after 37 years of teaching, having taught at Bossier High School, Parkway High School and Plain Dealing Academy. Nancy retired as the Dean of Community Education at Bossier Parish Community College. She had attended seven different universities. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and of Catholic Daughters of America.
She loved her profession of teaching. Nancy enjoyed travel, reading, art, learning new things and cooking. She visited 48 states, nine countries and was fluent in Spanish. Nancy was a devoted wife, wonderful mother and special grandmother. Her family will miss her very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 57 years, Roy A. Underwood, Jr. of Benton, LA; sons, Roy A. Underwood III and wife, Lindeanne of Coppell, TX, Alan Underwood and wife, Joanie of Haywood, CA; sister, Priscilla Fournier of Alpena, MI and grandchildren, Travis Alan Underwood and Amanda Marie Underwood of Coppell, TX.
Honoring Nancy as pallbearers will be, Derek Jarrell, Dustin Jarrell, Randy Jarrell, David Jones, Travis Underwood and Jeff Varnell. Honorary pallbearers are, Jack Bice, Jim Coleman, Joe Cornett, Curtis Gros, J.C. Howell, D.C. Machen, Charles Varnell and Ted Wing.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home for taking care of our loved one.
