Natividad Flores

Shreveport, LA-Funeral services for Natividad Godinez Flores, 84, will be held at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home in Shreveport, LA on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. Officiating will be Father John Paul of Mary Queen of Peace. Visitation with the family will be 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. prior to the service. Natividad was born on September 10, 1933 in Daanbantayan, Cebu, Philippines to Punay (Engracia) Godinez and Martin Arriesgado Godinez and left to be with her Lord and Savior on December 29, 2017. Natividad was a very special lady to many. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of The Filipino-American Association of the Arklatex. She loved to dance, cook and enjoyed the times spent with her friends. Natividad was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Apolinario Godinez, Melchor Godinez and Wilfredo Godinez; sisters, Lourdes Rosell and Sulpicia Guerrero. Left to cherish her beautiful memories are her beloved husband, Avelino Flores; her children, Marivic and husband Eric Bell, Napoleon and wife Marchides Flores, Grace Flores, Avelino Jr. and wife Chani Flores, Roger Flores and Edgar and wife Ruth Flores; grandchildren, Clinton Stevenson, Eric Bell II, Bryan, Dexter, Daryll, Dominic, Maria Lourdes Faye, Paul Jes Marc Flores, Aivey, Airis, Sophia, Gabriell and Mebb Flores. My family and I would like to thank everyone who are here today and also to all who were not able to come in person to say goodbye to Mama Nati. My mom was the oldest of 11 children. She wanted to be a teacher but she was not able to go to college since she had to help take care of her brothers and sisters. She got married and had 6 children. Since she didn't get the education she dreamed of, she made education a must for all of us. My Mom and Dad worked so hard to make sure we were able to go to college. She had big dreams for all of us. She told us what we're going to be. I even nicknamed her, "Our Drill Sergeant", because whatever Mama wants, Mama gets! She wanted me to go abroad and so I did. Two of my brothers, Nap and Boboy and my sister Grace became teachers. She also wanted an engineer, so my brother Jun became one. My youngest brother Ega wanted to be a priest but Mama wanted a nurse in our family. Guess what? She got a nurse, too. Through her devotion to prayers, God made all her dreams come true. She lived a happy life, full of love from her husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was considered a second mother to a lot of our friends young and old. She will be missed but not forgotten. We love you, Mom!
