Nellie Funk

Shreveport, LA - Nellie M. Funk age 90, passed away at her home on April 25, 2020 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Mrs. Funk was born to Jeptha and Lottie Merrell on July 18, 1929 in New Orleans, Louisiana and raised in Lena, Louisiana. 

Mrs. Funk graduated from Cloutierville High School in 1947 and married William Doyle Funk in 1948, moving to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1953. Being a homemaker most of her life, Mrs. Funk then worked 20 years as a secretary for the Shreveport Mental Health Center. She was a longtime member of Sunset Acres Baptist Church and currently a member of Pinecroft Baptist Church, where she enjoyed being involved in quilting with her fellow ladies of the church.

Mrs. Funk is survived by her daughter, Sherry Little of Marrietta, Georgia; son Roger Funk and wife Gloria of Shreveport, Russell Funk and wife Krista Citronelle, Alabama; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeptha and Lottie Merrell of Lena, Louisiana; brothers, Nathaniel Merrell, Almon Merrell , Ira Merrell and Iva Merrell; sisters, Jewell Rachal and Irene Youngblood. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, William Doyle Funk.
