Nona Beth Mathis Morgan, 69, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on December 4, 2022. Nona was born on November 10, 1953 in Gladewater, Texas to Leldon Mathis and Martha Wood.
A visitation with the family will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022 located at Rose-Neath Funeral Home-2201 Airline Drive, Bossier City, LA 71111. A funeral service honoring the life of Nona will follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tommy Patton officiating. Interment will be held at Hughes Springs Cemetery in Hughes Springs, Texas. Honoring Nona as pallbearers will be Ken Allen, Bill Duckworth, Chuck Duncan, Bo Harris, Mike Palmer, Gary Pearce, Noble Thompson, and Warren Windham.
Nona attended high school in Hughes Springs, Texas where she met the love of her life, Mark Morgan. They were married on August 3, 1973, and both graduated from Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas in 1974. After graduation, Nona and Mark moved to Shreveport, Louisiana so that Nona could obtain her Masters’ degree in Nutrition at Louisiana Tech and pursue a career as a registered dietician. She started her career at Willis-Knighton, worked several years at Highland Hospital as the Director of Food & Nutritional Services, and eventually went to Christus Schumpert where she became the Director of Food & Nutritional Services for about ten years. Through 49 years of marriage, Mark and Nona were blessed with two lovely daughters whom they adored. Her three grandboys were her life’s joy, and after she retired, she became their devoted “Nana”. Nona persevered mightily through the years with many health issues beginning with her first battle with breast cancer. Despite those issues, she continued her legacy of giving to others up to the last day of her life. Nona was the most generous and self-less person to her family and friends in any and all of their needs. She showed love and devotion to so many, as an expression of her love for them as she knew Christ’s love for her.
Nona is survived by her husband Mark; daughters Ann-Marie and Lauren; brother Tony Mathis and his daughter Brittani; grandsons Ryder, Roman, and Rhett.
The family would like to acknowledge the long-term relationship Nona had with her “Forever Young Girls”- Carolyn Pearce, Marilyn Duckworth, Linda Windham, and Elaine Duncan and thank them for many years of mutual love, care, and support for each other. In lieu of flowers, a donation made to the Hughes Springs Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 475, Hughes Springs, Texas 75656, will honor Nona with enhancement of the grounds.
Nona, you are now forever young.
