Norbert Maurice Ponder

Funeral services for Norbert Maurice Ponder, 94, of Bossier City, will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Drive Bossier City, Louisiana, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Spring Ridge Cemetery 801-809 Spring Ridge Road Pleasant Hill, Louisiana at 2:00 p.m. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Reverend Joe Clement.

Norbert Maurice Ponder was born on September 7, 1928, to Henry and Kate Ponder in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 26, 2023, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Maurice had a deep love for this family, and he enjoyed telling his stories and talking about Jesus. He grew up in a family where gospel music was a vital part of their home life. He was a charter member of Central Park Baptist Church where he led the singing and was the choir director for forty years. He was the founder of Ponder Construction Company and Ponder Hardware which is now Ponder Power Equipment. No matter how hard a day he had or how long he worked he would always complete the day by working in his vegetable garden where he grew a large variety of vegetables. He loved to brag about them, share them, and cook them.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 64 years, Murline Ponder; sister, Alma Luline Edwards; brother-in-law, Bill Edwards; brother, Glen Murphy Ponder; sister-in-law Rita Ponder; and great-granddaughter, Tabitha Stoute. Left to cherish his memory are his sons; Gary Ponder and wife, Nancy of Bossier City, Randall Ponder and wife, Sharon of Bossier City, Russell Ponder and wife, Barbara of Reno, Nevada; daughter, Brenda Crenshaw, and husband, Walter of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren, Hal Crenshaw and wife, AJ, Bridgette Bromfield and husband, Damien, Michael Ponder, Melanie Stoute and husband, Terry, Jacob Ponder and wife, Annalisa, Jonathan Ponder and wife, Traci, Kaleb Ponder, Carson Ponder and wife, Stephanie, and Michael; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Chase Bromfield, Heidi, Alaina, Noah, and Vivian Stoute, Katie and Braxton Ponder, Valentine Landry, Hannah Ponder, and Tyler and Hailey Morehouse.

Honoring Maurice as pallbearers will be Carson Ponder, Hal Crenshaw, Jacob Ponder, Jonathan Ponder, Kaleb Ponder, and Michael Ponder.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Scott McRight, Dr. David Green, and the nurses and staff at Willis Knighton Piermont, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
