Norman Franklin Marsh

Norman Franklin Marsh, age 90, of Florien, Louisiana, passed away Friday, July 5 after a brief illness. Norman was born May 8, 1934, in Anacoco, Louisiana.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 9891 Texas Hwy, Many, Louisiana. A visitation will be held Monday, July 8, from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Pisgah Church Cemetery in Toro, Louisiana. Friends and family are also welcome to join the family at Norman’s home on Dess Road in Florien after the interment in celebration of Norman’s life.

He joined the U.S. Navy at 17 during the Korean War, and served in the Formosa Islands, working on seaplanes. After his four-year stint in the military, he attended Southwestern Louisiana Technical College (later ULL) in Lafayette, Louisiana for two years before rejoining the military, but this time joining the Air Force. He married Betty Lucius, on December 22, 1961, and they had two daughters, Tamara (1962) and Norma (1965).

They were stationed in Louisiana, Texas, and Florida before Norman did three tours of duty during the Vietnam War. In Vietnam, he was a special liaison between the military base and the village leaders and led a crew of men working on F-5 and F-4 aircraft. After Vietnam, he was stationed at George AFB in California and Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas, retiring from Barksdale in Bossier City as a Master Sergeant, propulsion-superintendent.

Norman is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lucius Marsh; parents, George and Minnie Marsh; and five siblings, Marzell (Charles) Krumholtz, Kramer (Ruth) Marsh, Rosie (Rex) Snell, Paul (survived by Louise) Marsh, and Dean Kubena.

He is survived by siblings, Marilyn Sveda and Robert (Bob) Marsh, and beloved sister-in-law Louise Marsh; daughters, Tamara Baxter and husband, Lawrence (Bubba) Baxter, and Norma Marsh and husband, Craig Morgan; grandchildren, Caleb Baxter and fiancée, Alexa, Emily Baxter, Maxwell Morgan and wife, Teagan, Anna Morgan and fiancée, Julia, and Alex Morgan; great-grandson, Oliver Nunez; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends He also leaves behind his Corgi, Booker, who he said was a very good boy. 

The family would like to thank his home healthcare nurses, Chelsea Starks and Kylie Ebarb, and the skilled and attentive nurses and staff at Christus Hospital in Coushatta, who took excellent care of him with appreciation for doctors Wyche Coleman, Sean Troxclair, and Sarah Herbel.

For those who would like to donate in Norman’s name, his favorite charity was the Food Bank of Central Louisiana, to which he generously donated every month, or any reputable animal rescue, including the Sabine Parish Humane Society.

Pallbearers will be Craig Morgan, Joey Marsh, Caleb Baxter, Max Morgan, Alex Morgan and Gregory Snell. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Snell, Thomas Krumholtz, Louis Moss, and Bob Marsh.
