A graveside service for Opal Ellen Cook Nash, 99, will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Mt. Heights Cemetery, 121 Bedsole Lane, Mansfield Louisiana at 10:00 a.m. Officiating the service will be Reverend Steve Sallis.

Opal Ellen Cook Nash was born on November 30, 1924, to Ed and Emma Cook in Bienville Parish, Louisiana, and passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Opal was a very kind, compassionate, and loving woman. She was married to her one true love Pete Nash for most of her life until he passed away. They had one son Mike, and she spent her life doting and caring for him and her husband as a housewife and homemaker.  She was a dedicated member of Southside Baptist Church in Mansfield, Louisiana. She loved the lord and sang her praises to him in the choir. She went to Community College and worked as a secretary for Lowery Motor, Calhoun Pecan Shelling Company, and Community Bank. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and stopping to smell the roses. She was obsessed with feeding the birds and squirrels and loved to watch them eat and play. She made friends easily and never met a stranger. She was the life of the party even at the age of 99. Her charismatic energy and kindness will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Opal Ellen Cook Nash was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesse “Pete” Nash, and son, Michael Defee Nash. Left to cherish her loving memory are her grandson Michael Keith Nash; daughter-in-law, Janet Nicholson Nash; and special friend Patti Deaver.

The family would like to express special thanks to the doctors and staff of Colonial Oaks Nursing Rehab Facility for the love and care they gave to Opal during the last two years and a heartfelt thank you to her lifelong friends the Sallis family and the friends and community of Mansfield, Louisiana for all they did for her over the years.
