Ouida Anne Mitchell McMullen went to rest with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, following her brave battle with a lengthy illness. Surrounded by her children until she breathed her final breath, she was still offering wisdom and encouragement to her family, stating "These are my last words. No matter how bad things get, things change."
Born in Shreveport, Louisiana on October 2, 1934, Ouida Anne was a lifelong Shreveport resident, graduating from Fair Park High School in 1952. She proudly served her country in the United States Women’s Army Corps working at the Pentagon for a portion of her years of service. Ouida Anne began her distinguished career with the federal government as a Deputy Clerk for the United States Clerk of Court Western District of Louisiana, from 1963 until 2000, taking a break in the 1970’s to stay at home with her children until they entered school.
Ouida Anne married the love of her life, Robert Milton McMullen, Sr. on September 21, 1968. Together they proudly raised their three children in Dixie Garden, nurturing their faith in God and instilling the joys of helping others. In addition to being an exemplary loving wife and mother, she was also a nurturing influence on many other family members, even caring for her husband until his last breath. She was humble in her leadership and delighted in being able to shape the lives of so many that she loved. She will always be remembered for her patience, kindness, generosity, selflessness, and sweet spirit. A devout Christian, she led by example through her wise counsel and quiet acts of service.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Milton M. and Eda Rose Snell Mitchell; loving husband of 52 years, Robert Milton McMullen, Sr.; sisters, Mary Louise Thomas, Barbara Jane Mitchell, and Nancy Rose Richart.
Left to cherish her memory are children, Jennifer Anne McMullen of Shreveport, LA, Robert Milton McMullen, Jr. and wife, Wendy, of Cedar Park, TX, and Linda Gail Brookshire and husband, Shannon, of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Ainsley Fontaine Brookshire, Victoria Anne McMullen, Zachary Dalton McMullen, Ella Lina Andrews, and Vale Dane Andrews; and great-grandson, Joseph Christian Campbell, Jr.
