Bossier City, La - Parnie (Lee) Gunter, 84, went to be with his Lord on April 5, 2015. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Rose-Neath's Southside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Reverend Bob Moore. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the funeral home.
Lee was born September 4, 1930 in White Plains, North Carolina. Known as the "Mayor" of the Shreveport Downtown Airport, Lee was a distinguished aviator, successful aerobatics pilot, and accomplished flight mechanic. He served in the United States Air Force and also worked 27 years in civil service at Barksdale Air Force Base. Some of his achievements include: President of the International Aerobatic Club - Chapter 2; Commander and long-time member of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP); member of the Civil Wings and Golden Wings Clubs; President of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 343; recipient of an Amelia Earhart Service Award; and member of the Shreveport Aviation "Wall of Honor".
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, James William Gunter and Zelma Sawyers Gunter; two brothers, Bobby Ray Gunter and Jimmy Gray Gunter; and his grandson, John Collins Ray.
Lee is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna White Gunter; son, Bud Gunter and wife Veronica; 4 daughters; Kathy Anderson and husband Rick; Paula Boysen; Penny Jones and husband Doug; Peggy Harris and husband Tim. He also leaves behind 2 brothers, John and Jerry Gunter, and 11 grandchildren: Jeremy Ray, Jessica Hagen, Lindsay Boysen, Tanner Jones, Joshua, Jacob and Nicholas Gunter, Konner, Kate, Karcher, and Sawyer Harris.
