Patricia Shumate Phillips

Patricia Shumate Phillips, age 94, of Shreveport, Louisiana entered into eternal rest on August 27, 2024. She was born on March 17, 1930 in Amarillo, Texas to Walter Alton Shumate and Nell Woodley Shumate. 

A graveside service honoring the life of Patricia will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024 located at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery, 8801 Mansfield Rd, Shreveport, LA 71108. Officiating the service will be Pastor Andrew Brewster. 

Patricia will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed being outside and working in her garden, always doing something in her yard. She loved her fur babies (dogs) and enjoyed sewing/knitting. Patricia worked as a dental assistant for 18 years. 

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Nell Shumate; husbands, Earl Varnell and James “Clyde” Phillips; children, Byron Varnell and wife Jennifer and Michael Varnell; and siblings, Woodley Shumate, Walter “Jack” Shumate, and Bill Shumate. 

Left to cherish her memory include her son, James “Kelly” Varnell; grandchildren, Daniel Varnell and wife Kimberly, James Varnell, Steven Varnell, Stephanie Varnell, and Megan Speight; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Caleb, Luke, Evathien, Lillian, Blake, Chamille, Matthew, and Charlie.
