McHenry, III (Associates of Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Divinity) Born July 7, 1952, pastor McHenry grew up as a 'Navy Brat' living from coast to coast and along the Gulf coast. Having earned his Associate of Arts degree from Pensacola Jr. College, he transferred to the University of West Florida where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. During his time in college, he was a part of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps, and upon graduation he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy. More importantly, during his last year of college, he came to faith in Christ alone as his only hope for his salvation, and he gave his life to become a disciple of his Savior. Pastor McHenry served as the Electrical Officer and then as the First Lieutenant aboard the USS Spruance (DD-963). He jokes that it was his pagan Executive officer who first called him to theministry. Since Pastor McHenry was the only officer who attended church regularly, his XO made him the Protestant Lay Minister for the Command. Destroyers seldom had Chaplains aboard therefore Pastor McHenry was responsible for conducting divine worship for the protestants and he dealt with the spiritual needs of the protestant crewmen aboard that ship. Pastor McHenry began to sense that God was calling him to leave the Navy and to pursue a course that would lead him toward the Pastorate. During these Navy years Pastor McHenry was also being discipled by men involved in the Navigator Ministry. With their counsel and the counsel of his home minister, he made the decision to resign his commission and to move to Jackson, MS to pursue a Master of Divinity degree from Reformed theological Seminary. In 1978 he left the Navy and came under care of the Gulf Coast Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America. (PCA) A year into his studies he was licensed to preach by the same Presbytery. While he finished his degree he became the supply preacher for the Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church, in Walnut Grove, MS Upon graduation, Pastor McHenry was called to a Church Planting (New Church development) work in Mobile, AL. God blessed that work and today a congregation continues to minister to that community. Pastor McHenry served in various churches and ministries until 10 years ago when his wedding to a native of Avoyelles Parish brought him to Louisiana. In 2004 hebecame a teacher in the public school system. In 2007 he became the supply pastor for the Atchafalaya PresbyterianChurch in Bayou Current, LA and has servedthere as abi-vocational minister until this past June. In April of 2014, pastor McHenry was received and credentialed as an ordained minister of the gospel by the Evangelical Association of Reformed and Congregational ChristianChurchesPastor McHenry has remarked that he started off his ordained service to our Lord in Church Planting and he hopes to finish his service in the same type of ministry here in Like the Apostle Paul who made tents to support himself in order to serve in ministry, Pastor McHenry \"makes tents\" as a teacher in the public school system. Pastor McHenry has been a Teacher of the Year for Bunkie Middle School. He currently teaches at LaSAS. He has also served the teachers of the parish as the 2013-2014 & 2014-2015 President of the Avoyelles Parish chapter for The Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana(A+PEL). He is also on the state Board of Directors for A+PEL as the District V representative. Mr. McHenry passed away on Wednesday May 27, 2015 in St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, LA.
