Paul Kenneth Whitehead, 67, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 26, 2024, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born on October 4, 1956, in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Kenneth Whitehead and Betty Jo McFatter Whitehead. He was a resident of Logansport, Louisiana.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Betty Jo Whitehead. Left to cherish his memory is his brother, Keith Whitehead and children, Jeremy (Margaret) Whitehead, Andrew Whitehead, Breanna Fisher, and Abby Whitehead; and sister, Kyleen Prewett (Carroll) and children, Sierra Hawkins, Kyle (Taylor) Hawkins and Wayne Hawkins (Emily Grush). Paul is also survived by seven great-nieces and nephews and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Paul was especially close to cousins, Brent McFatter and Bryan and Debbie Whitehead and friend, Mike Massey.
Paul attended LSU in Baton Rouge for a time before joining the Army where he served for four years. After his service, he graduated from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, and Auburn University in Alabama where he earned a PhD in fisheries. He worked for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries at the Booker-Fowler Fish Hatchery in Forest Hill, Louisiana. Paul retired to Logansport, Louisiana.
Paul was an avid hunter and enjoyed having friends and cousins come hunt with him in Logansport. He enjoyed working with plants, bee keeping, participating in a book club in Logansport, and being involved with the Louisiana Wildlife Federation where he served as President of District 8. Paul was probably best known for his mayhaw jelly. He made untold amounts and shared generously with friends and family.
Paul had a big heart and loved children. His family knew him for the thoughtful Christmas gifts he sent to nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, always wrapped in camouflage paper! Paul will be missed by all who knew him.
Paul wished to be cremated and specified that no service be held. We will honor his wishes.
