Peggy Hilburn Moore was born November 11, 1946, in Shreveport, LA to Ray and Bessie Hilburn and passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024.
Peggy graduated from Bossier High School in 1965 and attended Louisiana Tech University. She worked for Bossier Bank & Trust where she met her future husband, Loy Beene Moore. They were married in 1969 and had two children. She was an active member of the Potpourri Study Club, Junior League of Shreveport- Bossier, and numerous civic and education organizations in Bossier City. As a result of her tireless dedication to raising a family, she was named the Louisiana Young Mother of the Year in 1982 and represented the state at the American Mothers Association annual convention. Peggy enjoyed traveling with Loy and all types of gardening but was particularly fond of her tomatoes and roses. She was happiest when she was involved with and attended her children's and grandchildren’s activities.
She possessed the quiet patience of her father and the determination of her mother and was instilled with a dedicated devotion to Jesus Christ from both. Those traits helped her stare down and beat cancer twice. Cancer may have slowed her down, but she never let it change the cheerfulness and kindness for which she will be remembered.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Ray M. Hilburn and Bessie Malone Hilburn; her husband of 53 years, Loy Beene Moore and her brother Michael Ray Hilburn. She is survived by her son John Michael Moore (Beth); daughter Susan Moore Feibel (Lance); grandchildren, Peyton Beene Moore, Hudson Keith Moore, Evelyn Elizabeth Beene Feibel “Ellie”, and Lucille Levi Rae Feibel “Lucy”.
Honoring Peggy as pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Hoyt Bain, Trey Beene, Jerry Fielder, Jeffery Hilburn, Jason Maness, and Harry Solomon. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Midyett Sunday School class at First United Methodist Church in Bossier City. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, www.lls.org, or the First United Methodist Church of Bossier City, 201 John Wesley Blvd. Bossier City, Louisiana 71112.
