Ann Hollis, of Shreveport, Louisiana, was born to Ralph and Mildred Hall on January 18, 1937, in Union County, Arkansas. She passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. Ann was a member at Huntington Park Church of Christ in Shreveport, Louisiana. She loved Christ’s church very much and dedicated much of her time serving the church and its members. For over 20 years, she managed the cafeteria for Shreve Christian School, drove a school bus, cleaned her church building, and was the best homemaker a family could ask for. Even with four children and all the work she did, when she left for work, her bed was made, the house was clean and ready for her to come home and cook supper for the family she loved so dearly. Supper was eaten at her table and everything she cooked was delicious. She never complained about anything, and it’s amazing what she was able to accomplish. She married George Hollis, at the age of 16, before graduating from Fair Park High School. Both Ann and George grew up about eight miles away from each other. Ann was from Union County, Arkansas and George from Union Parish, Louisiana. Ann and George had very similar raisings in the country where they worked to support the family in the fields. Getting up before sunrise and studying under coal oil lamps after dark when their chores were done after school. Baths were taken about once a week in a #2 washtub that other family members used before them. They did not have electricity or central air and went to the outhouse to use the restroom. Ann grew up in a three-room house. One bedroom for her and two siblings (all shared a bed on the floor), one bedroom for her parents, and a kitchen. Love and respect for others was common during their formative years and idle time rarely occurred. Cruel? Unfair? Ann would tell you this molded her into the wonderful woman she became. Ann and George were married 64 wonderful years before he passed away in 2018. They were blessed with four children that loved and respected them. Not long after being married, George was drafted into the army and served in Hanau, Germany where they had their first-born son, George Jr. He turned one crossing the Atlantic which ended at New York harbor seeing Lady Liberty as they passed by. Money was tight, but there is nothing a committed Christian life, hard work and dedication will not get you through. Ann raised her children with the love and respect her parents had for her. She was caring, compassionate and willing to discipline when needed. Read Proverbs, chapter 31, starting in verse 10 for a detailed description of her. It could not be stated any better! Ann’s hobbies included being the best Mom/Mamaw, homemaker, cooking, serving anyone in need, having garage sales, going to garage sales and reselling items bought from garage sales in her junk booths. She loved Goodwill and clothed herself and her grandchildren with clothes bought at Goodwill. She always dressed so stylish, and people would ask her where she bought XYZ and she would always answer, “Where do you think?” If anyone passed away, Ann would always bring food and desserts. Also, not to brag, but she was a “World Champion Pea Sheller!” Ann loved her children, grandchildren and really anyone she met. She made everyone feel loved and had such a positive attitude. She was the best at everything she did because she worked hard at it. She was a Christian first! The world should know there is NOTHING more powerful than the influence of a “Godly Woman!” Our Mom, Mamaw, sister, cousin, and friend has left a great legacy. We are proud to be called hers and are so blessed to have walked in life beside her. Now, all her hard work and dedication to her family and her Lord is being rewarded for eternity.

Ann is survived by her two sons; Mark and his wife, Linda; Ralph and his wife, Jody; one daughter, Melinda Hatfield, and husband, Jimmy; seven grandsons, Justin Hollis, Chandler Hollis and wife, Victoria, Chesley Hollis and wife, Kellee, Wade Hollis and wife, Ashley, Briton Hampson and wife Olivia, Mason Hollis and wife, Ashley and Hunter Hollis; four granddaughters, Lauren Hampson, Katie Van Winkle and husband, Devon, Aubrey Hollis, and Ava Hollis; three great-grandsons, Evan Hollis, Ryan Hollis and Brady Hollis and one great-granddaughter, Quinn Hollis; one brother, Wayne Hall and one sister, Betty Sue Harris. Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, George Hollis Sr; parents, Ralph and Mildred Hall and her son, George Hollis Jr.

Honoring Ann as pallbearers will be Ann's seven grandsons and Clint Hollis. Serving as honorary pallbearer is Ronnie Hollis.
