Peggy Anders Sneed, age 84, passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side in Many, LA on August 25, 2022. From her birth in Many, on February 28, 1938, until her death on Thursday, she nurtured people around her with unconditional love, acceptance, positivity, and joy.
She has shown resilience beyond measure throughout her life. She served as a mother figure to countless children, starting with raising her siblings while she was herself a child still attending school. She met the love of her life, Clyde Sneed, Jr. while playing basketball at Many High School. They married on March 5, 1955 before he was drafted into the U.S. Army and she entered the workforce. Together with Clyde, they built a beautiful farm and raised two biological children, Phillip and Renee, as well as their grandson, Phillip Jr. They are also proud, grandparents of Janie Sneed and Noah Blackford, as well as great grandparents of Blake and Mason Sneed. They have loved and cared for many nieces and nephews, playing an influential role in many of their lives. She especially loved and was loved immensely in return by her in-laws.
As a child, she walked to Cedar Grove Baptist Church every Sunday, where she found great peace, comfort, and strength through her faith. As an adult, she served there as Sunday school teacher and led the Annual Christmas Pageant. Peggy later served as Sunday school teacher for adults at Mount Carmel Baptist Church. She loved music and sang in the high school chorus, church choirs, and a gospel band. She loved listening to her daughter play the piano, especially hearing her accompany church choirs and the Centenary College Choir, where she was adored by the choristers and affectionally known as “Maw Peg”.
Peggy was committed to her job at Pilgrim’s Pride where she made many friends, she considered family. She enjoyed learning and kept her skills sharp until her retirement at age 72, when dementia started to take its’ toll on her keen intelligence and problem-solving abilities.
In addition to working full-time outside of the home and working the farm, she was always cooking and caring for family. She made many sacrifices to ensure her family was well cared for and had access to education and opportunities.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 28 at 3 pm at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 5049 Hwy 118, Florien, LA with Brother Matt Warren officiating. Burial will follow at Florien Cemetery, with a reception afterward at the Mount Carmel Baptist Church fellowship hall.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to Jessica Hardy for her attentiveness and loving care, as well as all of the loving nurses and staff at Superior Hospice and Vernon Home Health.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Susie Anders; her musically gifted brothers, Victor, Earl, and “Sap” Anders; sisters, Eloise Potter and Virginia Clark; in-laws, Clyde and Bessie Sneed, Arthur Sneed, Orene and Clifford Harris, and Loree and W.E. Jackson.
