STONEWALL, LA - Penny Learene Laskin Melvin passed away at home on Saturday, January 14, 2017, surrounded by her family, at the age of 52. She lost her long, hard and courageous battle with cancer.
After graduating high school, Penny went to work for McDonalds as the "Birthday Party Girl". Later in her career she started working in the office doing accounting for them. Then, Penny spent the last 20 years of her life working for James, Hardy and Haley. The accounting firm was her second family. She will miss working all those Saturdays during tax season.
Preceding Penny in death were her mother, Beverly Jane Laskin, and brother, Jay Wilson John Laskin. Penny is survived by her husband Eddie of 30 years; two daughters, Kendall and boyfriend, Chad Hiner, and Stefani and boyfriend, Korey Brown. She is also survived by her dad, Charles Franklin Laskin; four sisters and their husbands, Peggy and Billy Lyles, Charlene Rushing, Pam and Jimmy List and Mary and Bobby Baker; granddaughter, LeAna Jane Hardy; grandson, C.J. Hiner; along with numerous nieces and nephews. There are also aunts, uncles and cousins in Ohio.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home with a rosary to follow. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Tony Adams, Daniel Lyles, Chas Baker, Jason Mabry, Chad Thornton and longtime friend, Bo Gillard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roy James, Phil Haley, Gary McDoniel, Korey Brown, and Kurt Gehl.
