Peter was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on March 2, 1956 and passed away on March 19, 2018. He attended Southfield School and C. E. Byrd High School, where he was President of the Student Body and graduated in 1974. As an undergraduate, Peter attended Louisiana Tech University, where he majored in English Literature and received a Bachelor of Arts in 1979. He went on to pursue his legal education at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and was awarded his Juris Doctorate in 1983. After graduation, Peter joined the Caddo Parish Public Defender's Office and spent two years there before entering private practice. Peter spent his entire legal career as a criminal defense attorney. He was admitted to practice in Louisiana and before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, the 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Peter's compassion and desire for truth and fairness was the driving force behind his success as a trial attorney. Over his career Peter represented thousands faced with criminal charges and legal challenges. Peter gave his all to every client. He was known throughout Louisiana as an exceptional trial attorney and handled a number of cases which were locally and nationally publicized. Peter's endearing ability to tell a story charmed many a juror, judge and client during his 35 year career. The legal community will feel his loss for many a year to come. Peter was a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, Shreveport Bar Association, American Bar Association, and was an examiner for the Louisiana Bar Exam. He served on the boards of Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and The Harry V. Booth-Judge Henry A. Politz American Inn of Court. Peter was past Captain of the Krewe of Justinian.
Peter's favorite role was that of dad and there was nothing he was more proud of than the accomplishments of his children. Peter remained close with his former wife, Mitzi Stone Flowers and her family, especially David and Sissy Stone. His children, siblings, Mitzi, the Stone Family, his close friends and family surrounded him with love and support in the final days of his life.
During his life Peter forged lifelong friends from all walks of life. He was an accomplished guitarist and singer and he enjoyed hunting, reading and watching old movies. Southfield School, where Peter served as President of the Board, remained near and dear to Peter and his family's hearts. Peter was generous to all and never thought twice about helping someone in need. He was a board member for Christian Services and truly believed in the good work of the organization for the community.
