Shreveport, LA - Philip Anthony Mondello, 86 went home to be with his Lord on February 8, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Summer Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Murry Hodge officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Minden, LA beginning at 2:00 PM. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home.
He leaves his loving wife and best friend of 53 years, Mary McCormick Mondello; daughter, Susan Mondello Woods and her husband David Woods of Oak Ridge, North Carolina and daughter Cindy Mondello of Greensboro, North Carolina. Philip was preceded in death by brothers Joe Mondello and Johnny Mondello.
If there was one word to describe Philip, it would be perseverance. Diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease in 1972, Philip endured and overcame numerous medical challenges. As he began nearing the end of his life, he had no fear in dying. His strong belief in his Lord Jesus Christ gave him the hope of an eternity with no more suffering. Though sad to leave his beloved family, he was completely at peace and ready to meet his Heavenly Father face-to-face.
Philip requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to a ministry very dear to his heart, Restoration Place Counseling (RPC) in Greensboro, NC, founded by his daughter Cindy Mondello in 2005. RPC offers affordable, professional Christian counseling to girls and women who might otherwise be unable to afford the care they need. Memorials may be sent to P. O. Box 35932, Greensboro, NC, 27425 or made online at www.rpcounseling.org/donate.
