Lt. Col. Philipp Robert Blaufuss was born on February 24, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa to Idella Blaufuss Belleson and Philipp W. Blaufuss and passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
A visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, Louisiana. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel at that Rose-Neath Funeral Home, which will be followed by military honors and burial at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, Louisiana. Rabbi Dr. Jana L. De Benedetti will officiate.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 53 years, Anita Cozzens Blaufuss. He is survived by two daughters, Lee Ann Evans and husband, Bill and Sheryl Marlowe and Bruce Moore; three grandchildren, Adam Simpson and wife, Mandy, Jeremy Simpson and wife, Ashley and Matthew Simpson and wife, Heather; nine great-grandchildren, Skyler Gorski and husband, Alec, Kylie Simpson and Adan Ayala, Aurora Simpson, Peyton Simpson, Alec Simpson, Garrett Simpson, Samantha DeYoung, Kyle Bryant and Madison Bryant; great-great-granddaughter, Alina Ayala; his dear friend, Kathy Plante and his fur grandbabies, Cleaux and Chibi.
Philipp retired as Lt. Col. in the Air Force after 24 years of service. He served our country in the Vietnam War and played an important role in the Linebacker Mission serving six tours in the bombing of Hanoi. He was very active with the Shreveport and Bossier Optimist Club and the Military Officers Association serving as a Board Member and in many other capacities. He loved being supportive of the youth and helped raise money for scholarships. He also taught math at Booker T. Washington and J.S. Clark and taught computer science at Louisiana Tech University, from which he was a proud graduate. He was an owner of CompCo/Microage (Computers) where he loved to share his love of computers.
He truly loved music and instilled that love to his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He supported and attended the Shreveport Symphony with his wife, daughters and grandchildren. He loved his family and left a great legacy which will live on and be passed down. We will always remember the times we spent as a family.
