Phillip "Pete" Brunson

Funeral services for Phillip D Brunson will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Rose Neath Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Crider officiating. Interment will follow at Bistineau Cemetery in Heflin, LA. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Rose Neath Funeral Home in Minden.

Pete was born June 24, 1943, in Ringgold, Louisiana and passed away on August 11, 2024 in Minden, LA. He is now enjoying a wonderful reunion with his family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Gene Brunson and his brother Carey Ken Brunson.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Pam Brunson; sons Shawn (Holley) Brunson and Blake Hutchison; daughters, Kimberly (Derek) Kirsopp and Erin (Michael Jason) Dudley; brother Gerald (Helen); grandchildren, Carleigh (Tyler) Zachry, Kendall (Colton) Carter, Abigail Kirsopp, Emerson Dudley, and Colt Dudley; great grandchildren, Sutton Carter, Eadlyn Zachry, and Stetson Carter.

Pete was a caring and loving father and husband. He loved his two daughters, son and wife, Pam, very much. He spent his younger years growing up on a dairy farm owned by his parents. When not working, his favorite past-time was the game of baseball. Pete went to Heflin High School and played 4-years of high school baseball and basketball. He was an Allstate catcher his senior year. With several offers from colleges to play baseball after graduating, including an offer to go to Florida to try out at minor league rookie camp, he decided to stay in Louisiana and get a job. As a young man, he worked at a sawmill for many years. Eventually, deciding to go out on his own, he became one of the finest carpenters in North Louisiana. He built numerous beautiful homes in this area. There was nothing he couldn’t build. His shop is filled with handmade bats, pens, duck calls, pepper mills and many other cherished items. A treasure to his family are the hand-made cradles and crib that he made for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

As much as Pete loved baseball, fishing, and woodwork, it paled in comparison to the love he had for his family. He adored Pam and cherished the many travels and adventures they shared through the years. 

One of the most notable things in the last 30 years was his dedication to the Sibley/Lakeside baseball program. He loved high school baseball and watching the young people come up through the program. He helped in every way from building new batting cages to scouting and attending games out of state. Along with his love for baseball was his love for fishing. He was an avid fisherman who spent many weekends at the lake with his many friends. 

There isn’t a Papaw around more proud than Pete. He never missed an opportunity to talk about his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. They were his brightest accomplishment and definitely what he loved most in this world.
