Phillip Glen Self

Phillip Glen Self, 67, of Jasper, Texas passed away at his residence on April 3, 2023 unexpectedly. He was born on December 16, 1955 to Charles Self and Betty (Rivers) Self.  A memorial service will be held to celebrate and remember his life. His service will be held at Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 9891 Texas Highway, Many, LA 71449 on Saturday, April 15, 2023 with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. continuing until service time at 2:00 p.m. All friends and relatives are invited to attend his visitation and memorial service that will be officiated by Bro. Leon Manshack.

Phillip cherished spending time with his family and friends. He never met a stranger - he was always ready to get out his guitar to play a song for anyone and everyone to dance and sing to. He spent his career proudly as a tugboat captain for 50 years. Phillip had a passion for the water, whether it was Galveston Beach or Toledo Bend Lake. He especially loved being a mentor to his tugboat hands, including his own son Jacob. If he wasn’t on the water, you could find him riding his Harley with his wife Bonnie, or spending time with his grandchildren who held a very special place in his heart. You could also find him in the kitchen cooking or grilling a delicious meal for his family, as he was a phenomenal cook, yet another way he showed his love for his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Betty (Rivers) Self; his wife, best friend, and love of his life for 20+ years, Bonnie Sepulvado Self; his grandson, Acen Vines;  granddaughter, Livye Lewis; his sister, Thelma Self; and his brother, Charles Allen Self. Left behind to mourn his passing are his sons, Michael Self and spouse, Tarah of Jasper, TX, Jeremy Self and spouse, Ashley of Austin, TX, and Jacob Huggins of Shreveport, LA; his daughters, Darci Bass of Hemphill, TX, Tonia Bass of Zwolle, LA, Sydney Ebarb and spouse, Chester Bell of Many, LA and special daughter, Amy McGee of Bossier City, LA; 22 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other family members.

Phillip was a caring and loving husband, father, popo, and friend to so many. He always wanted to make sure everyone was taken care of. His memory will always be cherished, and his love will forever be felt.
