At the age of 102, Polly Adele Cook went to be with her Lord and Savior and was reunited with her husband and daughter on the morning of Tuesday, July 9, 2024. Polly was one of seven siblings born in East Point, Louisiana on April 20th, 1922 to Charlie and Lillie Ferguson. Despite being the valedictorian of her high school class and having the opportunity to pursue higher education, she chose instead to marry the love of her life, C.D. Cook, at the age of 19. Her primary focus was to support his successful home-building business. Together, they were blessed with two daughters, Judy Cook Hall and Betty Jo Vidler.
Polly had a vibrant spirit and was adored by all that knew her. She was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church where she earlier served on the decorating committee, assisted with designing the prayer garden, and supported C.D. with building projects on the church campus. She was fun-loving and enjoyed receiving or telling a good, clean joke and occasionally a naughty one! She delighted in hosting gatherings at her home, preparing meals, and offering thoughtful acts of service to those around her. She did not meet a stranger and could converse with anyone young or old and make them feel at home. Before C.D. 's death, Polly enjoyed traveling and displaying her competitive spirit playing tennis well into her 70s. In later years, she found joy in playing bridge and quilting. During her recent stay at The Glen, she loved a Hershey’s chocolate bar and looked forward to sharing it with anyone that would take a square as long as they did not get more than her!
She is preceded in death by her husband Clifford David (C.D.) Cook, her daughter Judy Cook Hall, her parents and her siblings. Polly leaves behind a family who will miss her dearly including her daughter, Betty Jo Vidler and husband King Vidler, her granddaughter, Angela Wilkins and husband Blaine Wilkins, her grandson John David Hadwin and great grandchildren Turner Wilkins, Abigail Hadwin, Seth Hadwin, Emma Grace Hadwin, Lily Hadwin, and Noah Hadwin.
Honoring Polly as pallbearers will be Blaine Wilkins, Turner Wilkins, John David Hadwin, Harold Ray Golden, Joe Ferguson and Joe Raymond Peace.
Please join us to celebrate Polly’s life at Christ United Methodist Church on Friday, July 12th at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow immediately after at Forest Park East Cemetery. Any donations can be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 1204 Crabapple, Shreveport, LA 71118
We would also like to thank The Glen for their care, love, and support shown to Polly.
Proverbs 31:25-28 NIV
23) She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. 26) She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. 27) She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. 28)Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.
