R. E. Deutsch, better known as "Dutch", passed away Monday, July 15, 2024, after battling pulmonary fibrosis for several years.
He is preceded in death by his parents Albert Carl Deutsch and Gertie Pearl Holcomb; brothers, Albert Carl Deutsch, Jr., Wiley Deutsch, and Billy Spencer. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sue Davenport Deutsch; son, Michael Deutsch and daughter, Kim Deutsch Henderson and husband Gary; grandchildren, Monica Deutsch Cason and husband Rodger, Chad Henderson and wife Heather, Colby Deutsch and wife Erin, Cortney Deutsch Dowden and husband Michael, Susanne Henderson Wells and husband Aaron, Josh Deutsch and wife Hallie.
Dutch will be remembered for his keen sense of humor, quick wit, generosity, and his love of family and friends. He was always considered to be thoughtful, full of good advice, and the type of person who would do anything he could to help someone in need.
He was born in Longview, Texas on June 16, 1932, to his parents Albert Carl Deutsch and Gertie Pearl Holcomb. He attended School in Cotton Valley where he made many lifelong friends and loved to play football. After high school, Dutch worked in the oil field for 20 years and came home to get a job for the DeSoto Parish School Board in order to watch his kids play sports. He spent most of his adult life working for Dairy Queen doing maintenance work for numerous Dairy Queens throughout the southern states, including Plumbing, air conditioning/heat and electrical work. He was well qualified and licensed in all these areas. As anyone would tell you, there wasn't anything he couldn't fix or do.
He met Sue Davenport in 1953 and fell head over hills for her and they were married three months later. They later had a son Michael, and daughter Kim. He was a loving, caring, and devoted dad. He was extremely proud of them and all their achievements. As each of his children married and had their children, he loved being a grandad to each one of them and loved spending time with them, watching them play sports and growing up.
"Dutch" was a strong, Christian man and has been a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Logansport where he worked as a teller in Sunday School for many years and was always willing to maintain the facility, whether it be plumbing, electrical or air conditioning.
We also want to express our sincere appreciation to the staff of Lifepath Hospice for your compassionate care these past few days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the "Standing in the Gap Fund" at First Baptist Church of Logansport.
A graveside service celebrating the life of R.E. “Dutch” Deutsch will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at O.E. Price Cemetery in Logansport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Rev. Charles E. Hall and Timothy Roberson.
