SHREVEPORT, LA - Services for Odell Clarence Chism, Jr., 70, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at North Shreve Baptist Church, 4930 Old Mooringsport Road, Shreveport, LA with a visitation from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Officiating will be Pastor Roy W. Davis assisted by Brother Steve Miller and Rev. McKee Williams. Interment will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery, in Bossier City, LA. There will also be a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, LA.
Clarence was born on October 6, 1945 to Ansley Alice Sandel and Odell Clarence Chism, Sr. in Many, LA. He grew up in Florien, LA. He received a calling to the ministry over 45 years ago and began his ministry at Mid-City Baptist Church, Shreveport, LA, then continued to preach throughout Louisiana and Texas. At the time of his death he was serving as the Associate Pastor of North Shreve Baptist Church. In addition to his pastoring he also worked at Rose-Neath Funeral Homes for almost ten years.
Rev. Chism was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Hilda Brown; nephews, Joe Brown, Travis Chism, and Shelton Stark. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Shirley Miller Chism; son, Phillip Darrell Chism and wife, Tammie; daughter, Amanda Chism; granddaughter, Brianna Patterson and husband, Curtis; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Marcia Thompson and husband, Jackie, and Glynda Dunn and husband, Steve; brothers, Carl Chism and wife, Ola and Garland Chism and wife Peggy; nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends; and also his four legged friends he loved so much Rosco, Missy Cat, Muffin, and Molly.
The family wishes to thank Dr. James Jackson, and the staff at Willis-Knighton North 5th floor MICU for their care and compassion.
Honoring Rev. Clarence Chism as pallbearers will be Paul Chism, William Moore, John Powers, Gary Shelton, Joe Smith, and Terry Watson. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Billy Arceneaux, Michael Morris, Soul Searchers Sunday School Class and his colleagues at Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
