A native of Freemont, County Cork Ireland, Fr. Scully was incardinated into the Diocese of Alexandria in 1950, at the invitation of Bishop Charles P. Greco. He finished his seminary training at St. Patrick College in Carlow, Ireland in 1956, and was ordained in Carlow by Bishop Keogh. He had an extensive career of ministry in both the Alexandria and the Shreveport Dioceses during his 65 years of ordained priesthood. Not only did Fr. Fr. Scully served as pastor faithfully in a host of parishes located in Monroe, Alexandria, Pineville, Shreveport, Jena, Powhatten, Zwolle, Ferriday, Hodge, Mansfield and Vivian. Needless to say, there are many faithful of our state who were touched by Fr. Scully's dedication to the gospel. He baptized hundreds of children, married many, many couples in the area and facilitated the burial of many of the faithful who practiced their faith in the region.
Prayers are requested for his beloved niece and caretaker, Diane Hatry, his sitters who faithfully cared for him, Sasha Olviera and Denis "Jimmy" Rodriguez, his dear friend, Dianne McLoughlin and his constant priest companions, Fr. Russell Wright, Fr. Paul Nguyen, and Fr. John Dreasen.
