LOGANSPORT, LA-----Graveside services honoring the life of Rex Heard, 81, of Logansport, LA will be held at Bethel Cemetery on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Robert Barron officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Logansport, LA from 6:00 PM till 9:00 PM.
Rex Madison Heard died June 21, 2017 after a brief illness in Shreveport, LA. He was born January 1, 1936 to Johnny Huson Burkett Heard and Theresa Anna Green Heard in their home in Bethel, LA.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Martha Fayard Heard; and his brothers John Leonard Heard of Logansport, LA and James Raymond Heard of Mansfield, LA. Left to cherish his memory is his only son David Z. Heard and his wife Vickie; four grandchildren, Lenzi Heard Beal and her husband James, Brandon David Heard and his wife Taylor, Nikki Heard Lozano and her husband George, Eric Ehrenzweig and his wife Lauren; one great grandchild, Noah James Beal, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Rex graduated Logansport High School and made his mark playing football, before following in his brother's footsteps and joining the Airforce, serving two years. While serving in Biloxi, MS, he met his bride to be Martha. Marrying her and moving back home to work for P.E. Dixon at Desoto Plumbing and then on to Hunt Lumber Company, where he was hired by Porter Dowling; Hunt Lumber later became Willamette Industries. Through company buyouts he continued to work as a manager until he retired. He was finally able to pursue his favorite past time, deer hunting, which he loved and prepped for and made it a year long event. Rex continued to hunt and spend time at the deer lease until his health no longer allowed.
Honoring the life of Rex will be Brandon Heard, Bradley Cummings, David Cunningham, Bret Register, Ernest Register, and Travis English, Jr. (Bubba).
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011; Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001, or an organization of donor's choice.
