Rex Lynn Lowe, a native of Blanchard, LA, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021, at the age of 69. Rex battled heart disease for nearly 30 years. He had a huge heart and eventually it could no longer keep up with him. Rex was known by many different nicknames: Rex Lynn, RL, Reese, Sexy Rexy, the Gum Man, Uncle Mess and self-proclaimed Mayor of Punkin Center. The names or titles he cherished most were Husband, Dad and Big Daddy, and most recently Caretaker.
The stories that can be told about Rex are endless and the stories he told are priceless. His imagination and love for life were almost as big as his personality. Rex never met a stranger and always made everyone feel included.
When he was not working at Kansas City Southern Railroad, he was attending practices, games, pageants, and the list goes on, for his daughters who he called #1 and Junior. Years later he would attend his grandchildren's events which would often bring him back to his Alma Mater, Northwood High School. Ultimately, Rex began sitting out on activities so that he could care for his loving wife, Patty.
While Rex had heart disease, he was the primary caretaker of Patty, who is now in the final stage of Alzheimer's Disease. Ultimately, he succumbed to the stress and heartache of watching the transformation of his best friend and wife of 49 years.
Despite the hardships and health issues, Rex always had a huge smile on his face, gave big hugs, and occasionally a stick of gum to anyone he knew or just met. He was bigger than life and the world just could not hold him anymore.
Rex is preceded in death by his father and mother, Merton Emry Lowe and Kitty Willis Lowe Royal. He is survived by his loving wife, Patty Rosett Lowe; daughters, Jessica Hall and husband, Brian and Rachel McCormick and husband, Chad; grandchildren, Hunter and Hannah Beth Herrington, and Austin and Josey McCormick; brother, Emry Lowe; along with many brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; cousins; and close friends that he considered his family.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA on Thursday, July 8, 2021. A graveside service will take place at 10:00 a.m. at Blanchard Memorial Cemetery on Friday, July 9, 2021, which would have been Rex's 70th birthday.
A very special thank you to Dr. Phillip Rozeman for the continued care he provided Rex over the last 30 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made in the name of Rex Lowe to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 or the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011.
If Rex would have had final words he would have simply said "chiggnu"!
