Richard Eugene Lewis of Shreveport died Monday, August 7th, 2017. Mr. Lewis was born in Kilgore, Texas and grew up in Ringgold, LA where he graduated from Ringgold High School in 1955. He attended Northeast Louisiana College and LSU Baton Rouge. After working in Shreveport area furniture and appliance stores, he founded Lewis Furniture in 1974 where he continued to meet and greet customers until the day of his passing.
Mr. Lewis was a fervent witness for his Lord and a staunch supporter of the church. Mr. Lewis attended Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years where he taught Sunday school to countless preteen, teenage boys and young adults. He also served as a deacon, church clerk, and chairman of numerous committees. In recent years he had a strong passion for service to the Calvary Baptist Spanish Mission. He and his wife of 59 years recently joined Rose Park Baptist Church where he was extremely excited to begin a new area of service.
Family visitation will be Wednesday, August 9th from 5 to 8 PM Services will be officiated by Rocky Maddox of Rose Park Baptist Church and close personal friend, Carlos Meza of Calvary Baptist Spanish Mission on Thursday, August 10th at 12:30 PM at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery.
Mr. Lewis is preceded in death by his parents Gene and Lois Lewis and his brother, Robert Lewis. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Patricia Messina Lewis; son, Van Lewis; daughter, Cheryl McRae and her husband Ricky; son, Robert E. Lewis and daughter Christy Stevens and her husband Robert Stevens; sister, Myrna Jean Wilson; and nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Honoring him as pallbearers are Robert Stevens and Matt Foster; grandsons, Joshua McRae, Philip Lewis, Jacob McRae, and Riley Lewis.
