HOMER, LA: Richard \"Dick\" Shealy David died on April 14, 2020 as a result of complications from the COVID-19 virus. Richard was born in Minden, Louisiana on August 11, 1931 to William Bert David and Lavinia Shealy David. After graduating from Minden High School, Dick attended Louisiana College. He later transferred to LSU, from which he obtained a Bachelors and a Masters Degree in Education. His studies were interrupted by four years of military service, which included a year in Korea that left a deep and lasting impression on him.Richard taught school in Baton Rouge, Shreveport and at the A. E. Phillips Laboratory School at Louisiana Tech. After retiring from the public school system, he taught at Glenbrook School in Minden for a number of years. Dick had a love and passion for teaching as evidenced by the number of his students who stayed in touch with him over the years.Dick lived on Lake Claiborne in Homer for over 40 years and worshiped at Wesley Chapel where he was the pianist for many years. Dick enjoyed music, trying a new recipe and working in the yard. However, his number one love was family, whether family gatherings, visits or helping a loved one, and Dick will be dearly missed by his family and friends.He is preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Lydia and Ben Coleman. Surviving Richard are his brother, Bert David and his wife Liz, his nephews Bill David, Brad David and wife Pam, all of Dallas, TX; his niece Nancy Cowie and husband Graham of Homer, LA and their children, Andrew Cowie of Chicago, IL and Allison Cowie of Austin, TX.The family would like to extend their grateful appreciation to Willow Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Willis Knighton Bossier 3Rd Floor Nursing Team and Dr. Van for their care and compassion. Dick had arranged to donate his body to science but current circumstances do not allow for that, and he will be cremated. Dick requested that there be no memorial service. Donations may be made to Wesley Chapel Homer, LA, the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe, LA or to the charity of the donor's choice.
