Richard Bradley Thibodeaux died Wednesday, February 26, 2025, after a brief cancer battle. The Whiteville, Louisiana, native was born on December 23, 1953, to the late Hubert and Lillian Thibodeaux. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Candice Abrams Thibodeaux; daughter, Amy Thibodeaux; brother, Carl Thibodeaux; and sister, Janice Thibodeaux. He is survived by his daughter, son, and four grandchildren, Adrienne Thibodeaux Wanek (Todd), Natalie and Bradley Wanek, R. Seth Thibodeaux (Lauren), Andrew and Philip Thibodeaux; sister, Patricia DeJean; and fiancée, Cheryl Liljequist.
He spent his career in education, mostly teaching middle and high school mathematics and Adult Education. He taught in Evangeline, Jeff Davis, Lafayette, and Caddo parishes. At the time of his death, he was in the 50th year of his education career. During his free time, he enjoyed travelling and being around his children and grandchildren. When he was not working or attending a function to cheer on a grandchild, he was on a bus tour of America. Over the last ten years of his life, he went on continuous bus tours around America making it to all 48 contiguous states. He also traveled to Israel, Iceland, and as recently as last summer, down the Rhine.
He was a great man. Always loyal and true to his words with anyone. He loved the Lord and tried his best to be an example for Jesus. Always willing to help his children in any way, unless it involved grandkids spending the night, he frequently offered his advice to them in many situations, whether solicited or not. He was a man of many friends who never met a stranger and was always willing to share a fantastic story with anyone who would listen. One of the friendliest people you would have ever met, he ran into everyone everywhere, including a former student at Disney World. He had endless energy matched with a zest for life that few are blessed with, and he lived that out as long as he could. He is healed now and leaves behind endless memories for those he loved and loved him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Peddi and Willis Knighton Cancer Center for helping Dad fight this awful disease. Equally, Passages Hospice and Riverview Care Center need to be thanked for the wonderful care they gave Dad in his last few weeks before being called to Eternity.
