SHREVEPORT, LA - Rita Jeanette Mitchell Shelton, 67 years old, passed from this life to join her Lord and Savior on August 10, 2016, after a lengthy illness. She was born on February 28, 1949 in Shreveport to Tracy V. Mitchell and Clara O. Jones Mitchell. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Northwestern State University. While attending college in Natchitoches, LA in 1969, she met and married the love of her life, Glynn R. Shelton. They made their home in Shreveport. Jeanette spent the majority of her career teaching at Southwood High School and then retired from Caddo Career Center, where she was involved with teaching the STAR program.
Jeanette was a faithful and devoted member of Brookwood Baptist Church. After retiring she found her true passion and became an accomplished artist. She really enjoyed displaying her art for others to enjoy. Also she loved visiting Sanibel Island in Florida where she enjoyed walking on the beach, always looking for that perfect shell. Among all her interests and hobbies, her family meant the most to her and she truly enjoyed spending time with them all. She will be missed dearly.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving and adoring husband of 46 years, Glynn R. Shelton; daughter, Ashley L. Peters and her husband, Ryan; sisters, Patricia L. Sers and husband, Ernest, and Lois E. Grant; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Shelton and wife, Mildred, and Raymond Shelton and wife, Judy; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and her precious rescue dog, Sophie.
