Robert Henry Bell, 90, went to be with his heavenly Father on December 29, 2018.
Mr. Bell was born in Wood River, Illinois and had six siblings. He joined the United States Navy right out of high school. He served from 1946-1948 as a firefighter on the USS John A. Bole, USS Mervin, USS Endloott, USS Thompson, and The USS H.A. Wiley.
Bob moved to Louisiana in 1950 to marry the love of his life, Louise Wafer Bell. They met on a summer vacation at Rockaway Beach and wrote letters to each other for less than a year before he moved to Shreveport from Cottage Hill, Illinois to marry. He worked for the telephone company for 34 years before retiring. They were able to travel across the United States in their motor home seeing the sights and attending Blue Bird Rallies. They also traveled to Hawaii several times and through Europe. He was an avid golfer and bowler. He enjoyed participating in the Senior Olympics and was in several barbershop quartets over the years. He loved to play games and cards and was always fun to be around. Bob was spoiled by his wife and three daughters but he spoiled us as well. He was very handy with fixing everything, including cars, and was kept busy with honey do's from all his girls. He was always happy to help with a project.
Mr. Bell was a wonderful husband, adored father, and grandfather. Left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife of 68 years, Louise Wafer Bell; daughters, Nancy Bell Easley and husband Chuck, Mary Jane Weatherman and husband Jeff, and JoAnna Bell; three granddaughters, Hannah Easley, Allison Easley, and Rachael Weatherman.
A celebration of his life will be held at First Baptist Church of Blanchard on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation a 10:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
