Robert Lawrence Huff, 96, entered into rest on Saturday, April 9th, 2016. Known to family, friends, and coworkers as Bob, Uncle Larry, and Mr. Robert, he was born in Boston, Massachusetts, March 10, 1920, the son and fourteenth child of Irvin H. and M. Margaret Huff. He was preceded in death by his parents, and all thirteen of his brother and sisters, and his beloved wife, Mary Etta. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Svetlana Huff of Keithville; a grandson, Stan Chuprin of Dallas, TX; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Mr. Robert was a graduate of Hudson High School, Hudson Massachusetts, in 1939, and of Louisiana University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 1951. He married the former Mary Etta Jinks of Castor, Louisiana, on his birthday, March 10, 1944. She was a civilian telephone operator at Camp Polk. Mr. Roberts became so intrigued by her voice that he had to meet the real person, and as quartermaster could access the vital information necessary for a first date. They were together over 68 years.
Mr. Robert taught high school in Moore Haven, Florida, and in Ashtabula, Ohio, for over 30 years. He specialized in American and world history, government, economics, and social sciences. He was universally loved by his students and held in highest esteem by his colleagues. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa fraternity, the American Legion, and Southern Hills United Methodist Church.
Mr. Robert was also a tennis coach, and passionate about baseball and politics. The Boston Red Sox and Democratic Party were his loyal teams. He loved to travel and over the years visited every state in the US, Canada, and England. His wit, compassion, and insight will be missed by all who knew him. The family wishes to especially thank the staff of The Bradford Guest Care and Aime Hospice for making his final months as comfortable as possible.
