Robert H. (Bob) King of Shreveport Louisiana passed away on January 31, 2018. A memorial service celebrating his life will be at First United Methodist Church on Monday, February 5th, at 2:00 PM. A visitation will follow the memorial service. Bob was born on May 27, 1930 in Americus Georgia to Willie Howell King and Katie Lou Puckett King. After graduating from Fulton High School in Atlanta Georgia, he moved to Shreveport with his family and worked at Pittsburg Plate Glass. Bob joined the Navy in 1949 and was assigned to the USS Titania. He was deployed to Japan in June 1950. His ship made four landing invasions in Korea, including the Incheon invasion Sept. 1950. He returned to Japan in Jan. 1951 to deliver supplies from Japan to Korea. Bob was assigned to 14th Naval District in Oct. 1951, Honolulu, HI. He served in the Legal Department until he was awarded an honorable discharge April 1953. Robert H. "Bob" King, YN3 S. Navy June 1949 - April 1953 After his tour of duty, he came back to Shreveport and met the love of his life, Patsy (Pat) Brown, of Shreveport. He worked at the family business, King's Truck Body Works, prior to joining the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). He completed the electrical apprenticeship program and went on to became the Business Manager of the IBEW Local 194 and was later assigned to the International Staff in Washington DC to the IBEW 5th District out of Atlanta. Bob was a 62 year member of the IBEW, 32nd Degree Mason out of the Fair Park Lodge # 436, a member of the Shreveport Scottish Rite, and a Life Member of the American Legion Post 14. He studied at the University of Wisconsin, Cornell University, and the MEANEY Institute of Higher Learning in Washington DC. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; also his brothers, Clarence H. King, James (Jim) Howell King, and Ralph Lewis King; and sisters, Geraldine King Palmer, Edna King Shaw, and Ruth King Peek. Bob was married to Patsy Brown King for 63 years. He is survived by his wife; son, James Scott King and wife Beth Fuller King; son, Jon Robert King and wife Lylia Mehaffey King. He also leaves behind his grandchildren; Susan King Uccello and husband Adam Uccello, Hunter King, and Kaci King Baca and husband Scott Baca and two great grandchildren; Piper Uccello and Nora Uccello. Bob was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the CO-Wed Sunday School Class. Honorary Pallbearers will be Glenn Brannen, Herbert Prestidge, Glen Pickett, I.L (Tex) Murray, Stan King, Max Edwards, and Lonnie Shows. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, PO Box 15767, Shreveport LA 71165 or a charity of choice. Robert Harvey King (Bob) - a great life lived.
