Robert D. (R.D.) Low, 83, died on Tuesday, March 20, at his home in Keithville, LA.
Services will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 8400 Kingston Rd., Shreveport, LA 71108, with Harold Christiansen officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service. Mr. Low has been cremated. Arrangements made by Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, LA 71118.
Mr. Low was born in Atchison, KS, on November 13, 1934, to John Samuel and Florence Waters Low.
Mr. Low attended Atchison Public Schools and graduated from Atchison High School. He worked for LFM in Atchison until 1965 when he went to work for Mid-Continent Steel Casting Corporation in Shreveport, LA. After that, he owned and operated Shreveport Specialties, a steel foundry and pattern-making business. He retired from BailSco Blades and Casting as a vice-president.
Mr. Low was a member of Quail Unlimited and was on the Board of Directors for the Northwest Louisiana Chapter. Quail Unlimited was a conservation advocacy group. Mr. Low trained and field trialed English pointers.
He was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church.
He married Shirley Joyce Higgins in 1954. They had a son Ross Allen Low and two daughters Kelley Sue Low and Kathy Ann Low. They later divorced.
He married Dorcas Lea Clark. They had twin daughters Denise Marie Low and Daphne Kay Low and a son Phillip Alton Low. Dorcas preceded him in death on August 19, 2011.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother Stanley, and daughter Kathy Low Schneider.
Survivors include Ross Low of Atchison, KS; Kelley (Todd) Stillings of Lawrence, KS; Denise (David) Doucet of Keithville; Daphne (John) Stephenson of Shreveport; and Phillip (Sharon) Low of Keithville. He leaves 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, who were all precious to him. He is also survived by three brothers, Norman Low of Atchison, Bruce Low of Atchison, and Neal Low of San Diego, CA; and a sister, Donna Osborn, Faucett, MO.
The family would like to thank Leary Frasier, Louisiana State Fire Marshall, and the Caddo Parish Fire District #4.
