Robert Joseph "Bob" Mainiero, age 75, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 following a short battle with cancer. Services include a visitation at 5:00 p.m. followed by a vigil and rosary at 6:30 on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Rose Neath Southside. A funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday January 8 at St. Mary of the Pines Catholic Church in Shreveport. Officiating will be Reverend Francis Kamau, FMH and Reverend Pike Thomas. Bob will be laid to rest at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville.
Bob was born on October 27, 1942, in Hazelton, Pennsylvania to Victor Leonard Mainiero and Mary Benedicta Broyan Mainiero. He joined the Air Force in 1964 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as an airplane sheet metal worker. While stationed at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, he met the love of his life and began calling Shreveport "home." He continued his sheet metal career at the Western Electric plant in Shreveport and retired from Lucent Technologies in 2000.
Answering simultaneously to "Pop," "Papa" and "Dad," Bob loved his family deeply and cherished every minute with them. A lifelong Catholic, he lived his faith and modeled service. There was no meal he wouldn't share, no scrap metal he wouldn't save, and no person he wouldn't help. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 6, the Forty and Eight, the Knights of Columbus Marian Council and the St. Mary's Men's Club.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leonard "Junie" Mainiero, Michael Mainiero, and sister Carmella Mainiero, all of Hazelton, Pennsylvania.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Charolette Zern Mainiero; sons Victor (Melissa), Dominic (Lori), and John (Kasie); grandchildren Jacob, Zachary, Aaron, Victoria, Lucas, Bella, Ava and Miles; his brother Francis Mainiero and sister Catherine Yanuzzi both of Hazelton, Pennsylvania, and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Robert Morris, Harold Zern III, Gregory Cancilleri, Eddie Sanders, Mike Huckabee and Gordon Latham.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Anil Veluvolu and his staff, to Gordon Latham and Eddie Sanders for their love and support of Pop over many years and during his illness, and to Pop's special angel, Latoya Chalmers, for her loving care and generous spirit.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Holy Angels Residential Facility in Shreveport, Louisiana.
