A memorial service for Robert Anthony "Tony" McCarty, 77, will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the Church of the Nazarene, 1517 North Pine St., Vivian, LA at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor John Ford and Pastor Sherrill Stiles will be officiating the service. Tony was born on February 7, 1943 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Robert Edward and Myrtis Louise McCarty and lost his short battle with pancreatic cancer on Thursday, July 30, 2020 in Shreveport, Louisiana at his home surrounded by loved ones. Tony is preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert "Robby" Anthony McCarty, Jr.; grandson, Jonathan Tyler Jordan; sister, Patti Winiarski and nephew, Patrick "Pat" McCarty. He is survived by his wife of 42 ½ years, Gaye Phelps McCarty; two sons, Jason McCarty and wife, Stephanie and Steven McCarty and wife, Maria; two daughters, Melanie and husband, Dr. Scott Babin and Kim McCarty Parker; brother, Joe McCarty and his wife, Cherry; sister, Cissy Jordan; 16 grandchildren, Brittanie, Paul, Trey, Megan, Christian, Morgan, Brandt, Braeden, Dylan, Taylor Brooke, Jax, Ryleigh, Victoria, Caleb, Marshall and Claire; four great-grandchildren and many other members of his extended family and a host of nieces and nephews. Tony was a man that lived life to the fullest. He was well known for his love of his family. Tony's passion was cooking, especially for his Cajun cuisine. He also loved the water, from the lake to the ocean. His dream was to sell everything, and he and Gaye live on a yacht that he would name "The Ladygaye". Tony was an entrepreneur with many small business adventures. As a kid he sold doughnuts door to door and worked concessions at the Louisiana State Fairgrounds. He started his professional work life at Channel 3 where he became Producer/Director. He went into Trucking covering all facets of the business and had a successful freight brokerage company. He also owned a floor cleaning service, Anthony's Pizza, drove a school bus for Caddo Parish and had a heating and air company. Tony had retired four times and was still actively working when he became ill. Tony loved his family beyond measure. His motto was "Always Room for One More". He attended as many of the grandchildren's events as possible from school functions to football games to ballet recitals. He was a veteran and proudly served our country, active duty in the Air Force and then continued on for 12 years in the National Guard. Tony was very strong in his faith. He was a Gideon, Sunday School teacher, church board member, member of the church choir and played a primary role in starting the long-standing tradition of a live nativity scene at the Vivian Church of the Nazarene. Above all, Tony was a man of God, a family man and a true friend to many. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. There is no doubt that Tony has now been granted Eternal Life with his Lord and Savior. His prayer would be that you will also personally know Christ the King and join him one glorious day. To God Be the Glory - instead of saying goodbye - just say "see you later".
