Grand Cane, LA -Bob Meredith passed away at the age of 85, on March 15, 2015, after a brief battle with cancer. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Memorial service will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 19, 2015. Officiating will be Rev. Thumper Miller and Rev. Bob Miller. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
Bob was born in Columbia, LA, May 3, 1929. He earned his Bachelor's Degree at LSU and Master's Degree at Stephen F. Austin. He served in the Army during the Korean War and retired after 37 years in the Army Reserves. He taught school in Desoto Parish, retiring after 25 years. Then owned and operated Meredith's Tire and Auto Care for 23 years. Bob was a long time member of First Baptist Church, Mansfield.
Preceding Bob in death were his parents, Homer and Mertie Meredith; infant daughter, Laurie; and brother Sidney M. Meredith of Monroe, LA.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris, son Seth and wife Jennifer; daughter Suzanne Brossette and husband John; grandchildren Seth Thomas and James Meredith, Caleb, Dustin, and Michael Brossette and wife Dana.
Pallbearers will be Bill Bunyard, Dana Deas, Greg Dyess, Bubba English, Huel Jones, and Steve Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Harvey Allen, Bobby Cox, Don Jones, Loyd "Buddy" McDonald, Baba Pearah, Butch Pockrandt, and Raymond Stewart.
The family suggests memorials, in lieu of flowers, be made to the LA Baptist Children's Home 7200 Desiard Street, Monroe, LA 71203, or the Shriner's Hospital for Children 3100 Samford Ave. Shreveport, LA 71103.
