Robert D Myers

Robert David Myers of Frierson Louisiana was called to be with his Lord on July 3, 2016 with his family at his side. Bob was born on July 23, 1932 in South Bend, Indiana to Edna Dome Myers and Bruce M. Myers, the seventh of twelve siblings. The family moved to Brooklyn, New York when Bob was three years old and then to Edwardsburg, Michigan nine years later.   A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday July 7 at Gloster Baptist Church, 6928 Highway 5, Gloster Louisiana. The Reverend Dr. Ron McClellan will officiate. Bob's long time friend Mike Quinlan will deliver the eulogy.   A lifelong outdoorsman, Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing, and working on his farm in the evenings after finishing his workday in the city. More than anything, he loved being with his family, and felt blessed to have 5 grandchildren. Bob was an active member of the Gloster Baptist Church where he served in various ministries including the "Older Men's Sunday Class" which he taught for many years.   Bob had been a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) union since 1967 when he became an employee of Western Electric in Shreveport. He served as President of Local 2188 for 18 years. During that time he was instrumental in founding WESLA Federal Credit Union and ETOP, an employee retraining program. After his retirement from Lucent Technologies in 1988 Bob was appointed to be an International Representative in District 5 of IBEW. Bob's heart was set on improving conditions for the workers he represented.   Survivors include his wife of 63 years A. Charlene Lark Myers whom he met on a blind date while stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City; sons, Paul and wife Amy (Baltimore), John and wife Nancy (Frierson), and grandchildren Julia, Anna, and Eleanor (Baltimore), Andrew and Brittany (Frierson). He is also survived by a brother Jerry Myers (Flint, MI); sister Eileen Fiore and husband John (New Castle, NY).   In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71103.
