SHREVEPORT, LA - Robert " Bob" McFarland lived a life that honored Christ EVERY day and was a hero to his children, family and anyone who ever met him. If you knew him, you loved him! Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton. Rev. Bill Hines and Rev. Larry Pridmore will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday, August 14, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
Bob was born on December 9, 1928 in Kettle Island, Kentucky and passed away on August 12, 2015. Bob joined the United States Air Force and was very proud of his military service. He retired from the USAF after 26 years. After retiring, Bob enjoyed traveling, bowling and working daily cross-word puzzles with his wife, Helen, and could always be found working on a two-billion piece jigsaw puzzle. Bob loved God and shared the love of Christ with everyone he talked to.
Bob was preceded in death by his son, 2nd Lieutenant Larry Eugene McFarland, and his first wife and mother of his children, Thelma McFarland. Those left to treasure his memory are his wife of 22 years, Helen Lee McFarland of Shreveport, LA; sons, Phillip McFarland and wife, Jayne of Houston, TX, Keith McFarland and wife, Denice of Doyline, LA, Kenneth Lee and wife, Kim of Mansfield, LA and Kevin Lee and wife, Amy of Many, LA; daughters, Sandi Miller and husband, Randy of Iowa, LA, Cheryl Winfrey and husband, Bill of Iowa, LA, Wilma Swofford and husband, Dennis of Jenkins, MO and Ellen Dunlap and husband, Ronnie of Vick, LA; brothers, David McFarland of Chiefland, FL and Henry McFarland of Nokomis, FL. Bob also has 26 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Honoring Bob as pallbearers are his grandsons, Evan McFarland, Dana Miller, Dennis Miller, Chris Myers, Duhe Winfrey and Russell Winfrey.
The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the entire staff at The Glen Retirement System for all the care, love and compassion they give every day.
