Robert F. Weiss, Sr.

Robert F. Weiss Sr. of Shreveport, LA passed away peacefully on April 4th after a brief illness. He was 89 years old. Robert (Bob) was born and raised in Aurora, Illinois. Following graduation from Marmion Academy, Robert served honorably in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war, Bob attended Northwestern University and joined Barber Greene Company where he worked in the production and purchasing departments until 1975. While at Barber Greene, he met and married Marion Rita Cobb, who remained his loving wife for 57 years until her death in 2007. Bob and Marion relocated to Shreveport, LA in 1975 when Bob accepted the Senior Materials Manager position for Kast Metals Corporation. Bob remained at Kast Metals until he retired as the vice president of manufacturing in 1991. Bob was an active member of the community in both Aurora and Shreveport. An avid sports fan, Bob coached club baseball, officiated swimming and served as a field announcer for Marmion Academy football. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Shreveport serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. Bob was also active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Shreveport and attended many continuing education programs at LSU. Bob and Marion cherished their relationships with many dear friends and family members who touched their lives in both Aurora and Shreveport. Bob is survived by his son Rob Weiss (Amy) and daughter Kathy Byhring (Reed), six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, sisters, Dorothy Weiss and Marilyn Nowak, and brother Richard Weiss (Sandy). Visitation will be at Daleiden Mortuary in Aurora, IL from 10am until Noon Monday April 11, followed by a brief service and burial at Mt Olivet Cemetery in Aurora.
