Roby D. Jones passed away peacefully on October 27, 2014. Roby, "Ro Ro" or Mr. Roby as he was called by his family and friends, was born in Coushatta, LA, on December 22, 1922. He was a shy, quiet, humble, generous man and a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. Roby said often times he was truly blessed during his life. He was the third child of Benjamin O. Jones and Louella Brown Jones. He graduated from Coushatta High School and attended Louisiana Normal for two years.
Roby was preceded in death by the love of his life, Wilma Tyler Jones, who passed away on September 10, 2008. They were married on February 10, 1946 and enjoyed 62 years of a wonderful and happy marriage which they can now continue in their heavenly home with their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was also preceded in death by his mother and father, brother, B. O. Jones, Jr., sister, Beatrice Jones Huckabay, mother and father- in- law Will and Otha Tyler, nephew, B. O. Jones, III and niece, Bennie Sue Huckabay.
He is survived by his son, William R. "Bill" Jones and his wife Laurie, grandchildren, Kris Jones Bridges and her husband Roy Bush Bridges, II and Benjamin Adam Jones (Adam), and one great grandchild, McCartney Kristine Bridges. He was anxiously awaiting the birth of his second great grandchild, Ann Turner Bridges. He is also survived by his brother, Glen Jones and sister- in- law Grace Tyler Jones, sister- in- law, Sally Tyler Morgan, 6 nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren. His family and his faith were the most important things in his life. No ball games were too far to go see when Kris and Adam were playing ball---- and they meant the world to him.
Roby was a partner in the general mercantile business of B. O. Jones and Sons along with his father, mother, and brothers. After the death of his parents and brother, Roby and Glen continued to run the business until Glen retired in the 1980's. After Glen's retirement, Roby continued to operate the business, which opened in 1921, until 2006 when he closed the store to take full time care of his wife. After Wilma's death, Roby returned to the store---- not to operate as a business, but to visit people, eat breakfast, read his Bible, take care of his mail and exercise until he became ill in April 2014.
Roby accepted Christ at the age of thirteen and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Coushatta on May 30, 1937. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and the Men' Bible Sunday School Class until his death. At the dedication of the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church on May 26, 2013, Roby was recognized and given a plaque by the church for his generous donation of land, part of which was used in the construction of the Family Life Center.
Roby was a former director of American Bank and Trust Company in Coushatta, Bank of Coushatta and the Springville Cemetery Association. He was also a member of American Legion Post 118 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7287.
Roby was proud of his service to his country in World War II. His induction into the United States Army was on January 25, 1943 and his honorable discharge was on December 4, 1945. He was a member of the 206th Engineer Combat Battalion that was assigned to the 3rd Army in August 1944. He was involved with his battalion in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe Battles and Campaigns.
Honoring Roby as pall bearers are Tommy Glen Jones, James T. Huckabay, Jr., Benjamin O. Jones IV, Tyler G. Jones, R. L. "Ronnie" Walters, Jr. and Adam Jones. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Lafield, John Duco, Jr. and the members of the Men's Bible Study Sunday School Class.

The family would like to express their thanks, gratitude and love to Margaret Lewis, Wanda Jackson, Jackie McCray, Billy McCray and Sharez Barfield for their care during Roby's illness. They were both care givers and friends during this time.
In lieu of flowers the family would request that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Coushatta, Springville Cemetery Association (Pavilion Fund), or the charity of donor's choice.
