Rodger D'Wayne Cross

A memorial service for Rodger D'Wayne Cross, 63, will be held Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City, Louisiana, Paul D. Hayes will officiate. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. until the service begins. Rodger was born to parents Wesley and Hattie Cross in El Dorado, Arkansas on October 1, 1956 and passed away June 29, 2020 in Haughton Louisiana. Rodger graduated from Haughton High School in 1975. He loved his Haughton Buccaneers!! He went to as many games as he could with his pal Steve Scully, including all the away games! Rodger always made sure that when his team won, the entire store he worked at would know. Rodger worked at Brookshire\'s #57 in Haughton, LA. He joined the company in November 1977, two weeks before the grand opening. Paul Carson the store director and Rodger opened the store up together, and subsequently Rodger helped Mr. Carson lock the doors before moving to the new location where it is located at today. Rodger was a fixture at Brookshire\'s and the partners and customers became a second family to him. He traveled to other cities to help get stores back up running after disasters hit, but he was always glad when he got back home. Rodger had an uncanny memory for names and events. If you ever needed to know when something happened or that one customers name that always wanted paper bags he was on it! He loved Brookshire\'s and worked there from 1977 until retiring in 2012. Rodger loved all sports, but he was an extreme Dallas Cowboy fan. He never lost enthusiasm for them no matter where they ended their season. He went mad over March Madness and would fill out brackets every year in the USA today. He enjoyed watching all the old tv shows, especially when they had a Golden Girls marathon! Every day at 4:00 p.m. he would watch "The Waltons". If you ever missed an episode of Mayberry, he could fill you in. He loved music, but the 60\'s and 70\'s were some of his favorites. He always knew all the words, and who sang them; don\'t bet any money on that! Rodger also had a green thumb. He would take some of the most pitiful plants and bring them back to life. He was always looking for something new and beautiful to plant in his yard, and he loved to get out there and tend to them. Rodger Cross was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Warren Cross and Michael Cross; and his beloved sister in law, Beverly. He is survived by his brother, Tommy Cross; nephews, Thomas Jr., Ian and wife April, Warren Jr., Caleb and Joshua and his family at Brookshire\'s The family suggests memorials made in Rodger's honor be made to a charity of your choice.
