In the early morning hours of Saturday, January 18, 2025, our Lord called his daughter Roma to her Heavenly Home. At 96 years, she was so ready to go. Having lived a full and Jesus-obedient life, her earthly journey came to an end. She is now healed and whole, reunited with loved ones (especially David, her husband) who went on before her, no doubt having heard those precious words from her Heavenly Father, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

Roma was born in Ellison Ridge, Mississippi to Casey Hamlet Ferguson and Amanda Ophelia Kelly. She and David reared their girls in Shreveport. Besides the delicious food she prepared, Roma also enjoyed gardening and sharing that beauty. Early on during her child rearing years, Roma began investing in the young people of Brookwood Baptist Church, sometimes traveling (with David as the bus driver) on the youth mission trips. Parents of those young people felt comfortable sending their children off because they knew Roma would be watching out for them...and she did! Much of the membership of Brookwood enjoyed Roma's cooking skills during the time she was in charge of Wednesday night suppers. And she often blessed folks with the special gift of her home baked bread. In fact, an early ministry of her church's women's ministry was called the Love Luncheon and honored the older ladies. Roma insisted on making the bread for this yearly event which in time grew quite large. An ambitious task which she never failed to do.

In these latter years, Roma's heart turned to the older members of Brookwood, serving them faithfully with in-person visits and food offerings as long as she was able. Anything that "Mrs. Roma" put her mind to, she did with passion and purpose. And she didn't mince words if she thought you needed to be involved. You could count on that from "Mrs. Roma"...she was "a straight shooter"!!

Recently, she was moved to Tyler, Texas as all of her daughters were in that area and were better able to tend to needs.

Roma was preceded in death by her husband, David; her siblings, Casey Ferguson, Jr., Geri Gardner, and Margaret Tubbs. Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Grace Marrs; her daughters, Charlotte Green, Mitzi Patton and husband Alan, Ruth Hunter and husband Kevin, and Sandra Kirkpatrick and husband James; grandchildren Amanda Rooney, Ashley Williams, Krystal Montgomery, Erica Kirkpatrick, Austin Hunter, Eryn Hunter, Christina Clark, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Honoring Roma as pallbearers will be Dave Baker, Ronnie Hurd, Donnie Lee, Daniel Faulkner, Scott Thomas, and Brian Huber. Honorary pallbearer will be Ron Calk.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Brookwood Baptist Church Missions Fund.
